Highlights in gynaecological cancers

BJMO - volume 13, issue 8, december 2019

G. El Hachem MD, J. Kerger MD, PhD

After last year’s ESMO meeting in Munich, the recent ESMO Congress in Barcelona again proved to be a ‘grand cru’ in gynaecological cancer, with the confirmation of the role of maintenance therapy with PARP inhibitors in first-line therapy of advanced ovarian cancer, even beyond BRCA mutation. Additionally, recent progress in the management of endometrial and cervical cancer will be highlighted in this overview.

SUMMARY

In order to advise the Federal Government on the reimbursement of molecular tests related to Personalised Medicine in Oncology, the Commission of Personalised Medicine (ComPerMed), represented by Belgian experts, has developed a methodology to classify molecular testing in oncology. The different molecular tests per cancer type are represented in algorithms and are annotated with a test level reflecting their relevance based on current guidelines, drug approvals and clinical data. The molecular tests are documented with recent literature, guidelines and a brief technical description. This methodology was applied on different solid tumours for which molecular testing is a clear clinical need.

Highlights in gynaecological cancers

BJMO - volume 12, issue 8, december 2018

During this year’s ESMO Congress in Munich, which was attended by over 28,000 participants, the vast majority of presentations and communications in the gynaecological cancer domain were devoted or restricted to ovarian cancer. This included at least one major breakthrough and practice-changing study in the first-line treatment of BRCA mutated high grade serous and endometrioid ovarian cancer.

Highlights in gynaecological cancer

BJMO - volume 11, issue 7, november 2017

G. El Hachem MD, J. Kerger MD, PhD

With more than 24,000 attendees, ESMO 2017 was the biggest oncology meeting ever organised in Europe. In the gynaecological cancer domain, there were some potentially practice-changing presentations in ovarian and cervical cancer, whereas new data in endometrial cancer were very sparse.
